3500s cutting out

Afternoon All,

I'm hoping someone will be able to help with a problem I've had with for a while now (no, not THAT, the car!).

She's starting fine, but will cut out for no apparent reason at absolutely any time..... sometimes within seconds of being re-started, other times after miles of trouble free driving.
She will ONLY re-start if the ignition is turned off and back on again, and will start on either the key or 'bump' if still rolling.
All of the other electrics continue to work.
She has an electric fuel pump (working fine) and electronic ignition (lumenition).
Someone has suggested the coil may be overheating/breaking down, but before I work my way round the whole electrical system replacing everything I was wondering if any of you wisened sages may be able to offer any pointers.

Ta everso muchly,

John

Hi Dave,

have checked connections where obvious, but not at the switch. May well have a delve into that when the weather dries up a bit - cheers.

I was under the impression that all P6's, even S1's, had the ignition switch arranged so that if the ignition was on, and the car had already been started, you had to turn the key all the way back to off before you could again turn the key into the springloaded start position. The way you describe yours it sounds as if you expect to be able to turn to start without turning the switch back to off? If so, that reinforces the theory that the ignition switch may be at the root of the problem. S2 ignition switches are known to give problems, so this is an avenue to explore in addition to the coil. Perhaps you could wire a tell tale bulb into the ignition feed directly behind the switch so that you can see what is going on?
