4 speed auto gearbox?? - V8 auto gearbox

Hi, I am logged on from Perth Western Australia. I'm 52, and was raised in a Rover family, Dad had a 1948 P3 which we drove across the largely unsealed Nullarbor Plain to Melbourne in 1961. Later on a Rover 90.

Because of this genetic imprinting I have just purchsed a 1976 P6 3500 Auto [Red]. Very little rust, and I am obtaining quotes to have the engine reconditioned. The car has been stored for some years and will require most rubber seals to be replaced.

My query: Is there a 4-speed auto gearbox that will fit this motor? As our second car, the Rover will be used for longer trips at cruising speeds.

I had a thread on this a while back, see the thread titled "autobox thump going int reverse". There is a 4 speed used on Jags and also the V8 Range Rover that might fit, its a BW75 I think. I thought my autobox was on the way out, but thanks to the chat room I sorted out the problem, so never chased alternative replacements.

Many Thanks, Rumblin Ron for the tip on the 4-speed box. I am seeing my mechanic down here in Perth [Aust], tomorrow, and also will discuss at an evening with the Rover Car Club on Saturday. Cheers, I 'll post when I have some news.
