98 Octane for 10-1 CR engines - Shell Optimax Petrol

I have recently switched from LRP to Shell Optimax for my 2000TC 10.1 CR .
I can report that it definitely improves the performance especially on long steep uphill climbs and under hard acceleration where it would previously tend to knock And I have managed to use the full recommended static ignition advance for the first time.

I might even use it to drag the caravan around this summer.

Shell state an Octane rating of 98 which is near enough the recommended 100, it costs 84p a litre here, but unlike LRP it definitely needs a valve protection additive - I am using "Nitrox Instead of Lead" (Will keep checking the valve clearances) Additives with octane boosters, eg Millers, would probably give the full 100 Octane or 5 star rating.

I believe we have the Boy Racers to thank for this as the demand appears to have come mainly from the hot hatch brigade.

has anyone else tried it or heard any horror stories re use in the p6 ?? (I have a spare cylinder head so can afford a little experimentation )
