Alien body in fuel tank - HELP!

Desparately seeking advice following a slight accident at the weekend. I have been running my 3.5 V8 for about 10 years now with no trouble at all. I regularly used Millers VSP as my fuel additive, but on visiting my local motoring shoppers den i found that they were all out of stock and purchased some of Wynns 'pink' lead substitute on the recommendation of the proprietor. No complaints about the product .... but there was a small disc on top of the bottle (not sure if it was material or paper based). The moron writing this post failed to remove said disc before pouring the required amount of additive into the tank and thus ended up with additive and disc in the petrol tank. So, not being an expert in fuel tanks, filters or fuel systems, my questions are

a) how big a problem is this?
b) will the disc just float around, disintigrate, block the fuel pipes, damage the engine?
c) if i need to do something - what should that be and is it difficult?
d) can i risk driving the car?

I'd hate to damage the car, but dont have the knowlegde or exerience to know what to do. The tank is now full of petrol.

Any advice would be gratefully recieved,

With embarrassed thanks in advane,

phil

Hello Phil,

The disc that you speak of is likely to be made from either a paper based material or foil or a combination of. I cannot say with certainty if it will float on the level of fuel or sink down somewhat, you would need to purchase another and place the piece in a jar with some petrol and see what happens. The outcome will determine if you might need to take action in the future.

What diameter would you say the disk was based on the neck size of the container?

Cant see that it would be too much problem as the disc is likely to be made of a petroleum resistant based material so would doubt it would disintegrate and clog the uptake filter, probably just swish about with all the other accumulated debris at the bottom of the tank, but I agree that it woulf be good to opick up another container and confirm this before doing ought else.

Magic - good thinking guys, and not far different to a friend at works suggestion today. Many thanks - I'm away this weekend, but will get measuring and floating ASAP.
