I am not sure about the blue capacitor, but the Bosch unit is a good one. Brushes and rectifier pack (marked EL 14V 4C) are in one unit, that can be replaced very easily with removing the 2 Philips screws shown, without any further dismanting. Bearing replacements if required are easy too.
I don't see why you should change this for a Lucas unit.

I’m not sure if it’s working and for about 60 quid seems easier to go back to a Lucas one I think the capacitor is something to do with suppression?

What symptoms make you think its not working? If the battery is not going flat it could be OK. If the headlights dim at idle, but go bright when driving, it might be becoming marginal. Does the ammeter stay negative when driving? Does a meter show ~ 14v when driving -good thing? Note that digital voltage displays that plug into the cigar lighter socket are not very reliable - mine read ~1V low. If you have any electrical problem symptoms, it will help if you disconnect, clean and refit all major connections - at battery poles smear some light grease on to reduce corrosion, checking for degradation of the earth lead. Separate and clean, apply Deoxit and refit all earth connections. In the UK climate this process woul be advisable annually.

Hi thanks for the replies
basically the car is undrivable so no feed back from that
it’s the ign light doesn’t go out that’s all
seems best to replace the alternator ? The only other electrical issue I dont think is connected but the wipers don’t work ?
any ideas accepted thanks paul
