Alternator - changing from early to later

I've just picked up an early 72 P6B with the earlier alternator fitted, and as I have a later alternator with the one-pieve plastic plug that is brand new and has only done a hundred miles on a car that I decided to strip, I was wondering if it's possible to swap them over.. which wires go where, etc?

Any ideas?

I can say for starters that you will also need the later aluminium bracket and the longer adjusting link to suit the 18ACR, and of course a larger fan belt.

There would appear from the wiring diagrams for cars fitted with each type of alternator that there would need to be quite a few changes. Your car will be fitted with a 4TR Control box and an alternator relay. Both of these are not part of the wiring system on cars fitted with the 18ACR as the voltage regulator (which I assume is the responsibility of the 4TR) is contained within the alternator itself.
