ALTERNATOR PULLEY NUT

Hi All,

Does anybody have a scrap Lucas alternator that's not up to much? The securing nut and sprung washer that holds the pulley onto the spindle came off mine on the move today! It's still held on by the fan belt and I can drive it, but I need a new nut and washer pronto. Loctite for the replacement methinks!!

Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks, Michael

I've just taken the nut off the 11AC I've got here and there's barely one turn of thread left inside it. :? Someone's obviously been there before.....

So I can't help you I'm afraid.

Is a 7/8ths socket right?
I've just removed one off an old Lucas alternator, but I don't know if it's an 11AC. The other 5 on my shelf were the same size while a Bosch and a somethingforeign had bigger nuts. None are likely to be off a V8.
Drop me a PM with your address if it sounds useful Michael.

I think Harvey's right, but sadly I can't check as mine has gone missing! I'll try and get a thread measurement - there can only one or two different types for P6's.... Thanks both for checking.

I could have sworn at least a couple of the alternators on my shelf came from 4-cyl P6s so I'm surprised it's wrong. Was the 11AC fitted to late or early Series 2 cars?
I'll have another look tomorrow and see how it compares to the one on my K-reg 2000TC and the one on a spare later 2200TC engine.

I don't know to be honest, but my car is also a 71-built, 72 registered TC on a K-plate. The workshop supplement (which I have finally got hold of!) also dates to 71, and states that 11AC type was universal fitment across all New Look 2000 models, so I assume I have that. It has the regulator in the glove box, so it's definitely not an ACR type. Would a pick help....? Or any identifying marks I could find on it for you?

Michael

The rain stopped so I've been out looking at some more...
One alternator on my spare 2.2TC engine;
One in my "project" 2000TC;
One in my everyday 2000TC;
Another new looking unit labeled "Hella" that came off a P6, and looking the same as a Lucas:

They're all 7/8ths. I.e. a 7/8 AF socket fits them.

That's a total of 9 Lucas alternators so far (and I haven't started on the Land Rovers), so I'd take some convincing that yours is different!

I've just measured across the threaded end of the one I removed the nut from and it's about 13.7mm.
Is that anything like yours?

That's brilliant, thanks very much! I'll have a little look tomorrow and check the spindle diameter. If it's right (which it sounds like it should be), would you mind popping one in an envelope for me? I'll Paypal a few p's to cover it. You wouldn't have a sprung washer to go with it would you?

Thanks again,
Michael

Nut + spring washer ready to post Michael. If you can PM me your address before lunchtime tomorrow, you might have it on Saturday. Don't worry about the cost, it's not going to break the bank. :)

"Willy Eckerslyke" kindly send through the pulley nut and spring washer. Pleased to report that they fit perfectly. Hopefully that should be the end of that!!

EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT

One of the bolts holding the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head has strangely disappeared! I noticed some carbon marks around that area, so removed the carbs and found that one was missing. I also managed to get at least half a turn on the other bolts, so maybe it rattled out during the run-in period. Does anybody have one that isn't doing anything?
Thanks,
Michael
