Another "Having my double garage built at last!"

That way I can stand in the pit and work on the brakes at chest height.

That's a good point - my pit is about 5' 9" deep so I can't really do this :(

Maybe I should have said "Ultimately she who must be obeyed wants me to whittle my collection down to 1 car, so she can sneak hers into the garage...

Well, its all finished! Door came today, so I'm like a kid with a new toy now. Really pleased with the door, it's insulated, and has draught excluders all round. Nice to have all that rubble and mud and rubbish all gone, and my driveway back. It's torture though, because the concrete floor's still a bit green, it's gonna take at least another week before it's hard enough to park on, then I've got to paint it too, so for a couple more weeks, I've got a lovely garage I can't use.. :D

Cheers! I'm really looking forward to getting stuck in without lying on the floor in the garden.. My poor P6 has spent the winter in a tent in the garden. The only trouble is, I can't use the garage just yet, the concrete floor is still a bit too "green" to park a car on, and because its inside and was laid after the garage was built, it doesn't have the air circulating so I need to dry it all out. A lot of water went into the concrete, and its gonna take time to get it all out again. I'm going to rent a space heater for a few days to run in the evenings, and the builders suggested leaving the door & windows open during the day. Then I'm going to seal & paint the floor, so its going to be a couple of weeks before I can start tinkering. It's torture I tells ya!! I've waited 20 years for a garage like this, and I reckon a couple of weeks will take a long time to pass! I still kinda wish I had the headroom for a lift like yours though Pilkie, now that looks really smart. Love the car stacking solution. 8)

Final update! I've only just found this forum again after it changed, so this is a bit out of date.I've finally got round to finishing my garage off inside. I left the floor for a month to dry out, but then disaster struck and the engine blew up on my 52 reg daily driver (Mitsi L200  ). I needed it back on the road quickly, and as cheaply as possible, so ended up rebuilding it myself. The trouble is, at this stage I hadn't yet sealed or painted the floor, and even though I put down several layers of builders plastic all over the floor, the oil that was dripping from the engine as I was stripping it down found its way through and soaked into my nice new, clean concrete floor, and must have been soaking in for a couple of weeks. After finishing the engine rebuild, I cleaned the floor with various different products, but unfortunately, 1 patch kept coming through the floor paint. I eventually scraped the paint off this patch, and cleaned it with caustic soda, and pressure washed it off. When dry, I sealed it with 3 coats of PVA, and 2 coats of water based masonry paint. I then finished it with 3 coats of polyurethane garage floor paint (FLAG stuff), and touch wood, it seems ok. Its all kitted out now..

As planned, with the old Anglebox tucked away in the corner, there's just enough room to put the rover over the pit, and have room on one side for working space. Got no excuses to get on with it now... :D

P.S. Here's a pic of me using the engine hoist in anger..

An oily bit on the floor shows you're a real hands-on mechanic .
That's some compressor you've got - 100 litre tank ?

Very true! I've already chipped & scuffed the paint on the floor with the trolley jack & axle stands.. but at least its not mega dusty like it was, which was my main drive for doing it. The compressor has a 150litre tank, another Ebay bargain. Its the juiciest compressor that'll run on a 13A single phase feed, in fact I'll be installing a 30A feed for it soon, as it does blow the fuse very occasionally, usually when starting. It delivers 14cfm, apparently. It runs all my air tools, with no worries. The DA sander too.. Next job is to "plumb in" some metal airlines. But for now, I'm getting stuck in to me Rover.. :)

Off topic, but seeing your V8 with the front off like that & showing the height of the opening reminds me of a P6B that was featured in 'Custom Car' many moons ago. A cover car, I seem to recall it was billed as 'Tonys Rover Royce' (I might have the name wrong). It had been adapted to take the top & bottom of a RR radiator grille with two S2 eggbox grilles sandwiched between. Obviously the bonnet had been sculpted to accomodate the ensemble. Bit of a 70's paint job too but I don't recall too much else being done to it.
Anyone else remember it?

Hi, yes I do. However I can't remember anything else about it, not
even the colour. I just remember not liking it, didn't look right.
Although I can appreciate now the work involved.

Colin
