I have recently re-connected my starter motor after a long time with it not being connected (it was initially taken off when the car failed to turn over 2 years ago). Wired up as in the Haynes manual wiring diagram, connected the battery and the starter motor instantly turns, making a whirring noise but not engaging with the engine, the whirring just gets faster. Of course I then just remove the battery.
Does this sound like the solenoid is stuck somehow but not engaging with the engine, has anyone ever come across anything like this?
The car is a 74 2200SC with what looks like the pre-engaged starter.
cheers
