About 6 or 7 years ago a mate of a mate had the sad task of clearing a house after his grandfather had passed away and there were 4 sets of old taps and dies...that were heading to the tip.

I've not touched them in all that time, so this weekend I hauled them out....and they do weigh a fair bit!

Apparently they all date back to Edwardian times and came from one of the first "Motor Garages" in North Wales.

Cleaned up the first set. Made by a company called Lehmann Archer. Can't find any information on them - only on Lehmann Archer and Lane who were based in Matlock and Fairlop, Essex at various times.

1/4"-20 to 3/4"-10 Whit complete with roughing and finishing taps. Sadly, the 5/16" button die is missing along with one of the screws from the small die stock.

And then there's this beauty...and it'll be even more so after a clean up and a bit of a refurb.

Not sure what any of the sets would be worth, but they're nice to have. Love 'em! :D

They're beautiful, I'd have those on display in the house, but as that is the SWMBO territory, a certain part of my anatomy would end up in one of those die wrenches if I tried to sneak them in.

Lovely, ive got some lovely old tools from my grandfather, mainly plumbing tools but some car ones as well. "they don;t make 'em like they used to......

BUT i hope some of my tools will be around to pass onto my grand kids.

I have the exact same BTC set from my great grandfather dating back to 1911
It is an interesting set as there are some left hand taps and dies in there as well.
