Aussie 3500s

Hi Guys

Question for our Aussie Members!

End of year I hope to be in a position to get me a new Rover! Think I would like to get my hands on a series 2 3500s- preferably with a 5 speed rover or supra box already in, in good to excellent condition. Hopefully something that doesn't need anything done to it, with electronic ignition ect

What price would one be looking at? Would 10 grand cut the mustard?

Hi Luke,

Great to hear that you're on the lookout for another Rover! :)

Ten grand is a good ball park figure to be working with for what you describe. You may well pay less, or indeed more, but by keeping that figure to the fore, it will help when you need to dig into your wallet.

Be prepared though for a wait, as there were only 250 'S' models imported into Australia, and all came direct from the U.K. Unlike the series 2 3500, the 'S' was not shipped to the Leyland plant in New Zealand for assembly.

Ron.

Hi Ron,

I miss my Rover! Polishing and tinkering and weekend drives! I miss the sound and drive the most!

I plan to hit Rover clubs Australia wide, money talks after all and see if that persuades someone to part with their car!

If I can't get my hands on a 3500s, would it be cheaper to buy an auto and convert to a manual?

Cheers,

Luke

Not sure about that one Luke. If you do the work yourself, but if you have to pay someone else, then expensive comes to mind.

Ron.

Find a 3500 auto already converted to manual.
Not really any different from a genuine 3500S.
And probably easier to find.

Autos have more room if you want a 5 speed box so probably a better bet if you do get one that hasn't been converted...

Thanks Fellas!

Some good ideas!

There seems to be a few Rovers in Aus for sale at the moment, they all just seem to be on the other side of the country!

Ill keep my eyes and ears open, now just for the final thing, that's to convince the mrs to let me get one- hard job when she compares a P6 to her dads old GT!

Are you talking a Falcon GT ? Holy Moly a GT will cost 40x P6 . There's your argument right there .
I'd add in a bunch of flowers .

Back in 72 , a mate I was working with in Tom Price [Nth West ] bought a new XY shaker the same time I bought my P6 . I thought the Ford was crap c/f the Rover .
I guess I made the wrong decision in hind sight

Too much work for what im looking for.... Want something that needs a little doing, or updating, but as such willing to pay reasonable dollars for something i dont need to do but polish
