"Avon Safety" alloys

They're curious-looking things! I've seen them on a Volvo P1800S in the past, and I'm sure that there was a grey 2000 for sale, with spotlights on the front, and a 2.2 fitted, that had these wheels a while ago.
 
I can remember seeing these Avon 'safety' wheels being advertised (new) in the motoring mags when I was a kid! Must have been 1973-74 I guess?

On the subject of unusual wheels, I used to drive an ex-Police SD1 many years ago which wore an unusual set of Michelin alloys + tyres.

The car had a few modifications for its role in Police work, and I believe that the wheel / tyre combo was one of them (the other mods that I can recall being a special low ratio back axle and a rear wiper - in 1981!).
