Bad Brakes!

If these pistons were slightly undersize as it appears they were, then potential rocking within the bore could easily cause that leaking couldn't it.

Hi Richard

I'm still not sure what has caused it as I can't find the original pistons to compare them with.

I am sure however that they should NOT be ribbed like that and I do remember that the old ones did NOT have the scoring on the chrome even though they had been in there for a very long time.

I really must clean up my garage so that I can find the old ones. It's on the 'to do list' 8)

I wonder if someone has overskimmed the pistons and then had them re-chromed with decorative chrome (as opposed to the correct hard chrome).

There are some consummate chimpanzees out there in the world of classic motoring.

That's my thoughts .Enough chrome to make up the difference in diameter ! Anyone doing that should be put out of business
