best uprated oil pump

Hi all,
Just read the oil pump thread and have another 'halfway house' suggestion !! I think Real steel used to sell an oil pump 'spacer' upgrade kit which effectively used original oil pump and re routes supply to increase pressure more moderately for peace of mind on tick over etc.

Regards Mark

So that'll be the one i posted a link to in the original answer to the original question 3 pages ago then ! :D

Whoops !! Just skimmed through thread and thought you were refering to a complete new pump. Will be more careful next time !

So....

Leave the pump as it is and risk oil starvation and have comfortable low oil pressure.

OR

Upgrade the pump for better flow and risk skew gear damage(?) and run higher pressure.

I know which horse my money is on.

If it's assembled correctly and carefully the pressure shouldn't be much above 50 psi at 2500 rpm ( normal running temp ), witch is within limits :D

I am now paying attention....Although a long way down my list of things to do on my car - I will install the oil pump upgrade for sure - I have not actually driven my car on the road - but it ticks over (very quietly) warm at around 20 psi on the gauge and nudged 25 psi when (gently) revved stationary. This was at running temperature after an oil / filter change using 20/50 Halfords branded classic oil - which I use in older vehicles as I reckon it to be Duckhams 'green' oil. In the past I have owned a couple of classics with temp or oil pressure concerns and tend to become a 'clock watcher' - not safe and not relaxing !! So to see an oil pressure on the move in the upper section of the gauge (rather than the lower) will give me peace of mind - although 60 psi would not !!
Going off on a slight tangent - I believe the Rover V8's are unusual in their 'low' oil pressure readings amongst the majority of similar aged American V8's (although most are not aluminium of course). I owned a totally original 1965 Dodge with 112K miles on the clock (which is a cast iron big block) - I installed a wet line oil pressure gauge and capillary water temp gauge and was pleasantly suprised @ 50 psi cold tick over and 45 - 50 psi hot moving. These sort of psi readings have been the norm with several older V8's of this type I have owned in the past.

Regards Mark.
