Brake Fluid Resivoir

Gentlemen, I have recently noticed that the resivoir seems to be losing the brake fluid. I have topped it up several times since christmas, what concerns me is the loss has at times been nearly the entire contents. I have checked the calipers for leaks and have n't detected anything as yet. Any ideas. One thought ocurs to me is that I did find that one of the blots holding it in place had come nearly completely off.

Hello Glen,

Rear caliper seals can leak filling the metal covers with fluid, so it may well appear damp around the rubber seals on the base of the covers. Master cylinder can leak,,...feel the pushrod where it enters the footwell for fluid. The booster slave cylinder seals once leaking will allow fluid to enter the vacuum chamber. Pull the vacuum hose complete with check valve out from the rear of the chamber and using a paper straw probe inside and check for fluid pickup.

As Ron says, check the servo / booster as this is the most likely place you'll find the missing fluid.

Also, if you've noticed any white smoke from the exhaust it will be brake fluid being burnt via the servo & inlet manifold.

I am losing fluid through the master cylinder. I had the same problem; fluid was gone but unable to find where the leaking was.

Check the master cylinder.

Thanks for the tips, I am away at work this weekend I will have a look Monday afternoon.

Also get the flexi hose.

Had had one which "weeped" or "sweated" there was never enough loss to pin it down but thats what the cause was.
