Hi all.
If anyone has or knows of, a late S1 or early S2 Rover P6V8 auto with a BW35 type 7FU box thats a good runner but rest of cars beyond saving for the road, please let me know.
Or are you changing your auto to a manual, and have a good BW35 you dont need?
Cheers.

I'm intrigued to know why anyone would want a 7FU in particular, and how they would imagine it would contain all 7FU specific internals even if they got a box with a 7FU dataplate on it....

Mainly because thats what it says on the label.
I wouldn't have a clue whats inside it?
As long as it works as it should!
So whats the problem with them then H?

howdyu tell if it's 7FU?

Got one I took out of my 1970 S1. It's at my dad's at the moment, so can ask him to take pics if useful

Neither would I, and therein lies the problem.

Any P5B/P6B box with the later selector pattern and a short cable will do then.

Exactly why I asked for a late S1,early S2 box!
The 3FU was the D1/D2 box wasnt it?
The later 7FU was the PRND21 late S1 and early S2.
Unless there is something I am missing.
Or do you mean using the BW65?
Which means converting to a cable operation not rods.

Was it a good working box when removed, and how long ago?

That's correct as far as it goes, but we're talking 45 years or so since they were current, and the 7FU was the first box with the PRND21 pattern, but they also started out with the long cable (that changed to the short one during the series), and so it's possible any box was put into an earlier car, or had an earlier valve block put in it, or who knows. The later boxes, 267, 303 or 387 are far less likely to have the earlier pattern, and looking at a box on the floor it's not possible to know what pattern you've got. It also increases the number of boxes and your chances of finding one.

OK,I can only go on whats on the box.
The one I have in the garage has a short cable.
So anyone got a P6 V8 BW35 with the PRND21 pattern.
As long as its a BW35 from a v8 it will fit and do the job wont it?
Whatever gear pattern it has!

The cable on the box I will be using has its outer broken where it joins the box,so I will fit the one from the box I am removing.
At the same time I will replace, "think I have one" or clean the filter and a new sump gasket.
Are the 35 and 65 converters the same,as I have 2 spares, and dont know which is which?

The 35 converter without the cooling shroud is interchangeable with the BW65 one. If you use one with a shroud you need to use the bellhousing with the cooling vent holes.

Cheers.
The one I put on the box has the cooling shroud and has the vent hole bellhousing.
The other one must be for the 65 I have in the garage loft.
Heres hoping it works ok if i need to use it.
xxx fingers.
I will adjust the band on the one in the car as its slipping on medium to heavy throttle, and a slight delay engaging when putting into R.
If that improves things I will give it an oil change as well.
Still changes gear well and will go all day at 90 on the motorway,so I think its more band than clutches slipping, I hope?

I have now located and bought, from a fellow forum member,a know to be good BW35 taken out of his 1970 S1 P6V8 in Feb 2015 when a manual conversion was done. :D
All I have to do now is try to get it from York to nearer to Bristol. :|
So???
Anyone who can help with transporting it,please PM or E me. :)

Box is now in transit from York to Bowes, then on down to me. :)
Very many thanks to those who are helping, and to those who offered help. :)
