Classifieds Ads Section

In view of the new 'non-affiliation' status of this forum what is the thinking amongst others about having a "For Sale" section?
The majority of forums do have one and it can be a quick and efficient way of selling or sourcing those unwanted/urgently needed parts.

Posters would still give away 'free to a good home' if they so desired but for those more valuable parts/cars it would also be handy to be able to put a price against them, particularly with complete cars.

I do not have a 'hidden agenda' as I have nothing to sell but it would be handy to be able to buy.

Whats the consensus? Any opinions for or against Richard? Or has the all encompassing Ebay killed private transactions?

I do have an original engine block pre-heater...no it's not for sale...yes i wish I had got round to fitting it!

Happy Scraping!

I do believe this is being considered, but the legal ramifications will have to be looked into for any advertising media.
I would support the idea, and would hope that it is limited to Classic Rover/Classic Car related items, and not people trying to sell their washing machine,fridge,2003 corsa, house!,"unless its a huge garage for sale with a nice house attached! .
Terms and conditions would have to be set in place, and agreed to by the seller.
It would make more work for the moderators, but I would hope that forum members can help police it and be sensible about using it as well.

That sounds good to me. I'd agree with the classic cars and parts only idea too. Maybe also stipulating that an asking price is included as a rule, rather than just putting 'offers' for.

Thats a good point,we dont want it turning into another online auction site!!
If anyone wants,"offers", then stick it on Ebay and let the bidding war commence there!
Set your selling price and then o.n.o if you want.

I have a V rare,mint,n.o.s boxed item ideal for our US/Canadian,Cold climate members!!
I could put it on Ebay, but their fees can be a deal killer.
I know what its worth,and I know what price I want. :)
So I am ready to start the ball rolling as and when webby decides to go for it!

I know Richard is considering this but he has a lot to do at the moment....

If he doesn't finish the bathroom soon it could well be divorce!

Mind you it would help if MRS Webmaster would decide which floor tiles she wants.....

Well she has plenty of colours to choose from, Mexico Brown, Almond, Cameron Green etc etc etc ...........

Hmmm, Paprika floor tiles, now there's an idea !

Yes, I don't see why we can't have a for-sale section, on the basis that the forum isn't actually selling anything, it's just a way for people to advertise their parts etc, the transaction would be done completely seperately to the forum, I can't see there being too much of an issue. As stated, most of the other forums have one.

I would probably make it a moderated section, i.e. the advert doesn't appear until a moderator has checked it, and I think we should limit it to classic car parts / vehicles etc.

How would you all feel about Traders on there ? :?:

Sounds like a plan to me richard!! :)
Although I would rather see a seperate place for dealers/traders to put a link to their site, like the club page!!
They can do it from their own page rather than intrude, possibly flood the private selling space!

I'm a bit nervous about traders being able to advertise things. Part of the success of this site has been the sense of a community of equals helping each other and encouraging each other. Traders intruding into this is capable of ruining the atmosphere of co-operation. For people like Ian Wilson or Alan Ramsbottom, surely a link from a "links" section is all that's needed? Ian has his own website so that's easy. Alan doesn't, but he has a sellers address on Ebay so we could link to that? Similarely Pierre and "allrovers" to think but of two.

Chris

On another forum I'm on, the traders are allowed to advertise parts for sale, but only if they contribute a small amount to the running costs of the forum.

Everyone else is allowed to advertise parts etc for free, but limited to one active for sale thread per person - otherwise the forum ends up clogged with multiple posts for each individual item the seller has.

Just my 2 cents. :)

That's fine guys, I was interested in your reactions. As Chris says, it's more of a community thing, so we can leave the traders either in a links section, or just allow users to recommend suppliers as and when.

Interesting suggestion Tofufi, sounds like a good idea.

I do feel that now is the time to have a donation facility (PayPal or other electronic means) so that we can contribute to the The CRF for the upkeep and maintenance :!: and especially if a sales section is to be added. I for one would be happy to show my appreciation, as I do visit here like many others quite a few times a day  and it keeps me away from spending my cash on that other auction site.
I did notice that the SD1 forum is for registered members only, and a suggested donation of £7 for non club members. If we only donate a few pounds each it would help in the success of this forum. :)

Anyone else agree,

Mike.

I am sure any donations would be classed as earnings, the govt, taxman will get you any way they can these days!
Unless to a reg'd charity!
But if there is a way round it then i have no problem with it!
If an item was being sold for £2.50 +p/p it would be better not to have a fixed fee,but to have it set as a % or vouluntary donation!

Thanks for the support, however at the moment I have next to no costs involved in running the forum, so I rather like the idea of it being free for everybody to use. The complexities of charging people to place adverts would be a pain, much easier to let you all get on with it !

If there came a time when I needed to raise funds to support the forum, then I would probably open it up to sponsored trade adverts, rather than getting the users to cough up, But again, I have no intentions at the moment.

Right guys, we now have a new forum section. "Buy, Sell, Find" has been created as the place for all part / vehicle adverts, wanted's and Free-to-a-goood-homes.
I've moved the current "Free to a good home" section into it, and moved a few of the posts into the appropriate sections, as I get chance I'll move a few more.

I've put a set of guidelines in the Selling section (kindly supplied by Richard Moss on the rover 800 forum), so please read them before posting your adverts.

Lets see how it goes, if you see anything suspicious or undesirable, please report it !
