can anyony help me with this problem please?
i have a v8 and have just had top & bottem ball joints renewed also front shocks to solve a clonking noise at the front near side. problem is it is still making the same noise.
it only happens when i pull away and brake
cheers

Check that steering idler is securely bolted down. But if it is more of a loud "click" than a dull "clonk", check that welds on the lower link mounting bracket haven't started to crack.

And make sure that the torsion bar is properly located in the bracket, although this makes more of a "tink" and will start to rattle if the bolts are loose.

Thanks for the advice, the idler was lose but i'm afraid that dident solve the problem.
After a good look at things i think it is the brakes moving in the caliper.
I have got a second hand one so i am going to try it the weekend.
Will let you know.

I was just going to say check the pads aren't moving in the caliper. There should be some springs in there to help stop this, also plenty of copper grease helps to smooth things out.

Springs?
We get a ticking sound on our V8 sometimes which I traced to the front pads moving up & down in the calipers until the wheels are moving fast enough to keep them up. The anti-squeal plates are in there but no springs. New pads didn't help & I even tried small MIG welds on the sides of the pads to make them a tighter fit. I had to grind most of them off to get the pads back into the calipers but it did the trick for a while although It's becoming noticable again.
It must indicate some sort of wear in the calipers though I've never come across it before, nor anyone else I've talked to.
Anyone on here experienced this problem?
Replacing the calipers seems a bit extreme not to mention expensive. ???

I have s 67 2000 SC auto. Am getting the same clunking noise from front passenger side. Everythings seems to be tight?

I am a P6 newbie having bought the Arden Green 1969 V8 still listed in the ads section. I am in process of joining the club. I have noticed the exact saome deep thump from the NSF on braking and a lesser noise on driving off. Can jaksplace or harborg tell me what cured this? Was it the brake pads? The idler and torsion bar appear secure.
I do have another unexplained noise but that can wait to a separate post to avoid confusion. I appreciate you sharing your experience as its difficult to know where to look first and to avoid expensive trial and error replacement of parts.

Thanks
John Macdonald

Tell me about it!!

I too have irritating noises that are coming from the NSF. I am starting to think that the brake calliper is to blame. I am curretnly trying to source a rebuild kit for some spare callipers that I have. I'll let you all know the outcome.

I have literally rebuilt or replaced everything else ???

Yeah, good point. Posting a piccy is always a good idea. I think I'll also try and acquire some new anti rattle springs as well. Another thought I have had is that Mk2 Escorts run a very similar calliper, in terms of pad size, and calliper type, so I might see if the Escort springs fit, as they are a much better design. I'll see if I can find time to post a piccy :D

Thought I would post a quick update............ I've fixed it!! :D I don't know why I didn't think of this quick fix earlier.........I removed the NSF wheel, and sure enough, the brake pads had a bit of movement in the calliper. I removed the pads, and adjusted (bent!) the anti rattle springs to put more pressure on the pads. Result? Yippee!! No more clattering noise from the NSF. :D
