Hi Iwonder if anyone can help me with the following when I pull away there is a slight clunk from the rear, this only happens from first to second gear. There is no vibration from the propshaft ,and the halfshaft ujs were renewed last year.I have just renewed the bottom and top rear link bushes, and renewed the shock absorbers last year.if i let the car roll back slowly and stop it with the handbrake the same clunk is there,I am now wondering if it is the panhard rod bushes or final drive bushes?any suggestions would be gratefuly appreciated.cheers dion27.

Have you checked all the bolts on the prop shaft and the half shafts at the brake discs.

I had a clunk and it was only when I took out the engine and gear box I found that one of the bolts was loose and had stretched a bit hence the clunk.

hi yes have checked all the bolts etc this one is starting to become a real mystery, geuss it will mean spending more money on bushes etc if cant get to the bottom of it.Funny how the process of ellimination always costs money?cheers dion27.

Can you get some one to operate the car and try to pin point the noise by lying next to it.

I guess thats my next approach good job for the weekend hope the weather is a bit better, the car has wire wheels which I did think could have been part of the problem but all splines etc are in great shape. So that rules that area out. cheers dion27.

I presume this is an auto? My V8 with early auto box clunks between first and second sometimes yet second to third is barely discernable. Also clunks about going into drive. Haven't worried about it too much. Should I have?

NO IT ISNT AN AUTO,AS THE CAR GETS WARMER THE CLUNK GOES OFF FUNNY REALLY,TIME TO STOP WORRYING ABOUT LITTLE NOISES AND START ENJOYING THE CAR.TOOK IT FOR MOT ON MONDAY FLEW THROUGH EXAMINER COULDNT BELEIVE THE CONDITION OF THE UNDERSIDE.HE SAID HE HAD SEEN WORSE MODERN CARS UNDERSIDE NEVER MIND A 38 YEARS OLD ONE,BUY A GOOD ONE AND LOOK AFTER IT THATS MY MOTTO! CHEERS DION.
