Conking out after 30 secs

Hi all. I'm stumped. My usually reliable car is letting me down. I thought it had bad fuel in, so drained and put in good fuel. Cranked the new fuel through and it started but then cut out again. Tried next day and she flashed up straight away but died after 30 secs. Tried to wind it over but nothing. Came out next day and it's the same. It seems quite lumpy when it is running. Spark is good. Stripped 1 carb down so far and it's clean. Anyone any ideas??? Cheers all.

The tank is ok. Doesn't make any difference where the valve is. But the filter may be to blame. I've also noticed the valve in the float chamber was stuck shut but I'd think that the fuel pressure would open it when req'd. I've got a couple of rebuild kits for the carbs so i'll do it all while I'm at it. Thank you both. I'll keep you posted.

if the float valve is stuck shut you may have been just dribble feeding the bowl so when you conked out it was lack of fuel.

if the valve was stuck open you might have just been flooding. I recently found that the fuel level is very very important.

Hello, I had what 'sounds' like the same problem with my car. It turned out to be a faulty condenesor. I'd replaced the old condensor with a brand new one which failed quite quickly, luckily I'd kept the old one just in case. So I replaced it and the car fired up and ran smoothly again. Both me and my Dad had been convinced it was a fuel related problem, he even accused me of letting the tank run dry  . Anyway, I could be completely wrong but it could be worth a try?

Have you taken off the fuel line to the filter to see if your getting a constant stream of fuel as if not it may mean your fuel pump is knackered :? just a thought

I think the condenser was to blame. I changed it and it started fine. But just to throw me off the scent, the battery packed in to give the same problem. I thought I was going round the twist. New battery, condenser and it's perfect again. thanks for all the suggestions.
