What degree of difficulty is involved with replacing seals, etc? Availability of parts? 1970 P6 3500S.

I quit the oil idea and pulled the shafts apart and covered both in a good coating of grease .
No more leaking oil seals and deteriorated Dedion rubber gaiter .
Not a difficult job . I forget the actual process but it is listed on this forum .
Otherwise someone like Pilkie will be along shortly as he told me about the grease only idea.

Not too difficult in my experience as long as you ignore the workshop manual method which tells you to remove the right hand side hub assembly as there is no need. You will need some jacks though.

Reverse the car up on to ramps. Use a jack on the rear crossmember to lift the car slightly and bring the tube down to a more accessible position – don’t lift it too far as the higher you raise the car the closer the wheels become together and you need the tube to not be fully compressed. Place two further jacks (or supports) under each elbow to prevent the wheels from tilting inwards when the tube is undone. Mark the position of both ends of the tube to the relevant elbow and undo the bolts (and two nuts) from the gaiter side and compress the tube to release the flange off the two studs on the elbow. Support the newly released end of tube whilst you undo the left-hand end and remove that from the studs.

The seals and gaiters are available from the P6 parts folk like Wins and MGBD and are easy to change. I would ignore the stupid bendy metal clip thing to hold the new gaiter in place and simply use a large jubilee clip instead.

I can’t comment on changing to grease-filled as I still use oil in mine.

Apologies if I’ve missed anything.
