i know this has probably been disscussed many time but what is the difference in the models of a 3500 and 3500s, well how can you tell the difference of a real S model and a 3500 with S bits added later

thanks, any help would be great

I was led to believe the 3500S was a manual, and the 3500 auto, so I would look at the stick.

Looking at the stick, " gearlever" wouldnt tell you if its a 3500 converted to a 3500s,only if its a manual or auto!
The main giveaway is the transmission tunnel is thinner in the car on a genuine 3500s,as the 3500auto tunnel is quite a lot bigger.
Where the main floor carpet butts up to the tunnel is straighter on the thin 3500s manual.
But remember the export nada cars were auto's and badged as 3500s!,most would be lhd as well!

The trans tunnel is the most obvious tell tale. The chassis numbers are also different of course, generally 45** for an auto and 48** for a manual. And if the base unit number is still visible (the small tag in the boot) then it will start with an 'M' if it's a manual car and 'A' for an auto.

Cripes you guys are a hive of information
And I thought the difference between an Auto and 'S' was a no brainer
Im learning new stuff every day I open this forum up
Just to be nosey .Where in the boot is the base unit tag?
Well done with the information flow
Its amazing what comes through this network

72 P6b with a fat gearbox tunnel and tag in the boot

Another difference but not visible is the exhaust manifold on the S has a larger bore size to give it the much quoted "10HP" difference.

If you open the boot,go to the boot lock,go left along the inner lip to the end and lift the carpet it is there.
