Distributor Rebuild - Parts needed??

Sometime in the next 4 or 5 months, my knowledgeable
friend has offered to help me rebuild and set a
distributor (he has a professional distributor
machine).

I am assembling a list of parts that are essential to
do the job.

Although the vehicles in question are 1969 and 1970
Rover 2000 TC cars (NADA), they both have been
re-bored to 2200 and I believe that has dropped the
compression to 9:1 from the 10:1. The good
performance on 92 and 94 octane gasoline/petrol
supports that assumption.

I have a collection of used distributors of varying
models due to purchases of old parts cars over the
years.

I have noticed that the rotating shafts have vertical
play. Question(s): How much play should one have?
What part or parts affect that action and could
be/should be replaced?

I have a distributor on my 1969 model which has
superior performance in terms of response and long
distance driving. The distributor number is 41085.

Questions:
1. Should a rebuild one to the 41085 specification?
2. Should I rebuild one with a 9:1 TC specification
and if so - which one?

TIA

Eric
