Hello Gareth,

You need to return the distributor to the same position that it had prior to you removing it. Did you note down the position before hand? Is it the same distributor or a different one? If different, what type is it...35D8, 35DM8, 35DML8?

Ron.

hi there i did but number 1 is at the front on the radiator but when i looked in the book it should be at 3 oclock but mine is close to 6 oclock so i thought if i set it at TDC and and remove it and turn the rotar arm till bout 3 oclock i have replace it with the early type as i had the later 1 in there that was causing all my problems

Gareth,

In the Haynes book it describes setting the rotor arm 30* from where you want it to be and then fit. As the drive meshes it sorts itself.

So you just need to play around until you get the best position. So long as the rotor matches with the firing order of the leads it will be fine. There is also a mark on the body to help you.

hi yea i have now sorted it out now and it runs so much better now yea i took the distribtor out again set it where i want it to be then moves all the ht leads round and it runs much better but now the car has now another problem yet again when i go to start it the starter works but no idcition but as soon i release the key its starts sound like to leads are on the wrong way round but i have not touch them and it was working fine on the old distribtor i think it just want to be played round with all the time lol now people can see why i call her christine from the movie
Gareth

That sounds like there is no feed to the ignition when the key is in the start position .Either the starter solenoid or the ignition switch to blame for that

yea i think its somthing to do with the switch but as i said it was fine b4 and for no reason it does things like this wot can i say rovers for you lol
