Dodgy fuse box

Whats the issues with the fuses boxes on Rover P6's. Ive heard it said that they are problematic. Mine is a 1972 3500 and I have an issue in that without warning I will loose the function of the temp gauge, fuel, oil presures gauge indicators and rear lights I think, also the heater fan and probably a few other things im not aware of. If I just simply touch the fuse box or rub my finger ascross the fuses they come back. It just takes the gentlist touch, very strange. I have taken all the fuses out and checked them and cleaned all the contacts. Ive done this twice and it still happens. Any ideas. Thanks peeps.

Hi Casper

The melting point of the plastic used in the fuse box appears to be lower than the normal operating temperature of some of the fuses, notably the main beam and heater fuses. This causes the plastic holding the fuse blades in place to distort and pull the contact away from the fuse. Running your fingers over the fuses, or rotating them remakes the contact and all is fine again. At best it's an annoyance, at worst I've heard the fuse box can destroy itself spectacularly

One solution is to fit relays to those circuits with the highest current draw so the fusebox doesn't take the full load.

Been here yesterday! There is only one proper solution, replace the fusebox. An AM box with fuses will cost about £25 and three hours of your time. The job is always going to be inconvenient, however that said, far more appealing than standing next to a broken down P6 with varying levels of melted fusebox/fire damage, wishing you had done it earlier. Either way, you are going to end up doing this job, its just a case of how inconvenient you are going to make it, slightly or massively!

Can you measure the length of your fuses?

Also what is the suffix on your chassis number?
