Door to Glass Seals - Interesting Idea

The perennial problem of what to do about the exterior door to glass seal has a new solution!

To date there are repro's in circulation from a number of different sources all missing the moulded in metal stiffener, plus Colin Gould at Faringdon does a very good, but non original, one cut down from a well known rep-mobile.

Now we have Ebay Link . The listing is self explanatory!

Later in the year I shall be investigating getting repro's done to include the stiffener with a contact in Vietnam!

Let's have another go: Ebay Link

The seller has a really interesting shop site on Ebay. I've bought recon elec window motors from him and he has a really good mod kit to replace the York A/C compressor with a small modern equivalent for anyone with air con.

similar prices to scotts old auto rubber - I'm tempted by the rear decker seal has any one bought one of these in the past i.e. can comment on quality.

Mine just gives off black crumbs when ever I touch it !

I have a set of Scotts window rubbers on my 2200 auto. They are really, really, good. Although no metal stiffener they are chunkier, and look far more strong than the original ones.

What I'd give a king's ransom for though is a drivers door rubber for an early 2000 (cut off ends, in gray). Rarer than hens teeth.

Cheers

The point with these American seals is that they allow you to use the metal stiffener out of your old door seal by providing a pocket to slide it into. Sounds like it has potential - but I'd still rather have the real McKoy.

I spotted these a while ago, in my opinion the window seals don`t look that great really. The only upside to that is maybe the seller doesn`t have very steady hands!

I agree with Kiltyarse - the quality of the trimming at the ends around the quarterlights is pretty poor. Looks like they have been trimmed by the same chap with the shakey hands who used to cut my hair in the period around 1976-1978!

In all seriousness to my last glib comment, one deciding factor for buy or not to buy will be whether the door trims are supplied already trimmed or supplied overlong for DIY trimming.

If they can be supplied overlong then great. I would then advise that the purchaser obtains a sharp scalpel for trimming as this is infinitely better than a craft knife or stanley for accurate end clean cuts. Alternatively if the possibility of Chrisyork getting quality items made overseas in the not too distant future then it may be best to hang on.....

As I understand it the American seals are an extrusion that you trim to length and put the fixing holes etc etc in yourself.

My original comment stands though - I've not yet seen any of the repro solutions that match the Rover original. Nearest miss in my view are the cut down repmobile seals that Colin Gould sells. They don't have quite the same external finish as the Rover ones, but functionally they are if anything better.
