Drive It Day - Sunday April 17th - South East P6's gathering

We've managed to bag a plot at the Brooklands Museum Drive It Day gathering on April 17th.

We've got an area just outside the Paddock for the P6 Rovers (with entry via the Campbell Gate off Brooklands Road). Hoping to get 20-25 cars if we can.

There's a £1 reduction for everyone who arrives in a classic car for Drive It Day. Sadly they're just about to put prices up so it is likely that Adults will be £10 and Seniors £9, so with the £1 reduction, it's likely we'll pay £9 and £8 respectively. Family tickets (two adults and up to three kids) £25 before discount.

Tony Bunting (ajcb on the forum) and myself are co-ordinating this one, if you can come let us know so we can keep them informed of numbers.

Thanks
Nick

Cost is expected to be £9 per adult/£8 per pensioner. Have e-mailed further details to you. places need to be reserved in advance. Seven of the places are taken already.

Cheers

Rather than start a new thread I thought I'd put my Drive it Day photos in here.

The Borders Vintage Automobile Club ran a Drive it Day event around the Scottish Borders today in glorious warm sunshine. We started off from Galashiels at 1030 and finished with a spot of dinner at a local golf club. Interestingly I met a guy who was driving a white Fiat 500 who said he'd just returned from a trip to Italy. On the way back he'd stopped off at the WW1 memorials in France and remembers seeing a very nice looking red P6. Presume that was you Stan :D. Such a small world.

Hope you guys and gals all had a good day out too :D

We did the 60 mile Lancashire Automobile Club run From Mitton Hall around West lancs and the bottom of N.Yorks Excellent day once I regained my brake lights, mild verdigis on the switch terminal. The cars were mainly sports cars from XK's, E types, Tr's, Morgans, Healeys and even a Stratos.
The start:

Yours is looking brilliant Dave! Whose is the almond P6? Anyone on here?

In many ways I prefer an ecletic gathering like that to a solely P6 event.

Of your pictures I have particularely happy memories of an A90 Westy. Many, many years ago, at school, we were subjected to military training every Friday afternoon. We had a particularely shambolic history master, who had much the same attitude to the military as us. He had managed to blag a motor transport section out of the powers that be. We had a Nissen hut and a series one Landy and we taught the oiks to drive round the school field. The driving school cars (and motor bikes) were parents cast offs. Amongst these were the usual selection of Ford 100E's and the like, but every so often something special would turn up. A stately Rover P2 figured, as well as an A70 Hereford with no floor in the front and no dampers. The star turn, though was an A90 that arrived as a non runner. As callow youths we made a pigs ear of setting the timing and eventually got it to go late one afternoon in November. The rugby field (two pitches) was semi waterlooged and we could only get the car to run on full throttle. So it was necessary for the six of us to circulate at max power - sideways - with a curtain of spray, mud, grass etc etc flying high in the air from the outside of the curve. The groundsman was not amused. One of the 100E's provided much amusement as well. Someone in an idle moment decided to check the engine oil. The dipstick read D-A-N-G-E- , so we though we ought to put some more in. An oil can was spotted high on a shelf so a mate of mine started to pour in the black liquid. That's a funny smell! Aaahh! Creosote! The next Friday it was followed around the field by a spectacularely noxious cloud of grey smoke, which completely obliterated sight if anyone was foolish enough to stop and let the cloud catch up.

A big Thank You from me to Tony Bunting for organising us all for the event at Brooklands yesterday. P6's totally dominated the classics turnout with 22 cars! Almost as good as a National Rally! There were so many people to talk to I didn't even manage to get out of the car park, let alone get to look round the museum or gaze wistfully at the banking. Nevertheless, a little motor sport was indulged in, as appropriate for such a venue. Nick Dunning's oppo Duncan took Lucky for a spin to try out the suspension modifications. In fact he didn't quite manage to spin him, although we tried really quite hard. Did get the mudflaps on the tarmac though, even with the stiffer springs. :p :p :p

A big thankyou from Tony and me to all who turned out yesterday. Brooklands, who we had been pressurising heavily over the last few weeks as they appeared to be a paragon of disorganization, came good, and we had a all the space we needed (just).

The weather was spectacular as well, quite superb sunshine, and the turnout magnificent - 24 P6's. I have a large stash of photos, but being at friends with strange IT, I've yet to be able to upload them. Watch this space.

Rhys, Adam, Jack and I met up with the early birds for the breakfast at 8.30pm, which was a very wise idea.

I did have a bad feeling that this one was doomed to failure, but in the end it was a truly excellent day. We may well go again!

I think this must have been my best ever car show experience. A great Thank You, to Tony Bunting, and Nick Dunning for organising yesterday.

And what fun it was too :D

Anyway:

Not a P6, but a good looking Rover.

It had to be done :)

Cheers, Adam.

Duncan and Linda Gill are just about to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary. Here they are re-united with their wedding car, Martin Smith's Three Thousand Five.

Great pics Nick!

Went to the Shepton Mallet show on Sunday show in my 3500 and was smudged leaving the showground in the afternoon, the pic is in this weeks 'Classic Car Weekly'.... you'll have to squint a bit to actually see it though
