I know a few of you have fitted them,so your help and tips are sought :D
I could go down the NADA E/window route but thats probably not cheap!!!.If I can I will!!
Has anybody got a full set with switch panel they dont want ??? ???

Now then, I fitted electric windows to the front doors on my old convertible, I used the mechanisms and switches from an early 216 Vitesse which I was breaking. The benefit of these mechanisms is that they have a remote motor which drives a cable up and down a track, rather than the conventional scissor type mechanism. I used the rear window mechanisms from the 216 in the front doors of the p6.

I've got a photo I took after I stripped them out when I scrapped the car.

I still have the frames so could take more photos if you like.

Just to add, 86-91 800's had similar mechanisms.

Having looked at the photo again, there is something to add, the bottom of the mechanism bolted to the frame as shown in the photo, but the top bracket bolted to the inner door skin, in fact there was already a hole in the skin in exactly the right place !

ianp6man has replacement parts which are replacements for the original switches used on the NADA 3500s.

He may have some parts for the electric window system as well .

I need to make a trip to find which motors were used; these were standard Delco parts for contemorary GM cars and most of these are available as aftermarket replacements.

I've actually used NADA frames on both cars on the grounds that it worked out slightly cheaper. But you'd have to check with Ian for availability.

I started out by planning to use aftermarket conversions and had a pretty close look at these. The ones i like were Italian and had a remote motor driving a drive belt onto a "pulley" lodged into the original winder socket. Writing it like that it sounds very heath robinson but I was very impressed by how neat an installation it made. Very easy to just recover the door card over the hole as well.

For switches i'm using BMW E34 (just type it into ebay - there are hundreds on there) located in place of the ash trays front and back of the centre console, but there are lots of options.

I can't immediately find the details for the Italian kits - if youre interested pm me and I'll have another look.

I began to do a conversion to electric windows about 3 years ago and had a great success.

I got a set of 4 SD1 doors. I stripped out the central locking and window motors.

The beauty of the SD1 units was that the gear on the motor is the same as the p6. However it is not a straight swap and requires some cutting and welding ht have it positioned correctly.

I might have some photos I will look out. I only did the one to see if I could do it and got busy with other jobs.
