Engine rebuild books

Hi, So due to budget and learning new skills, I'm considering rebuilding my 3.5 myself. I've got David Hardcastles book on the Rover but can someone recommend a good book that goes through the steps of what to do, what to check and how to do it to rebuild the engine? I've strapped a few engines together before but I want to do a proper job on this if I do it, so I'm happy to admit I don't know enough!
 
It depends on what you are trying to achieve.
  • Rebuilding an engine as standard, any workshop manual should do; Rover or Haynes.
  • To improve the engine, either for reliability or performance I would recommend D.Hammill book, How to Power Tune the Rover V8
Personally I would use both a workshop manual and the D.Hammill book for the little mods that will keep the engine running well longer.
