Exhaust rap's

Hi,

I am looking for some feedback about the rap kits for exhaust manifolds.

They are supposed to reduce heat under the bonnet.

Has anyone tried this type of thing and are they worth using?

Thanks
Colin

They seem to be used mostly on tubular steel manifolds rather than cast iron
It would be a pig of a job to wrap round a 3500s manifold in situ

I`ve used exhaust wrap on a tuned Sunbeam Imp and it really helps stop fuel evaporation. A mate of mine has a V6 Ford engine in a trike which he wrapped to help him stay cool and it does work!!

We have a Toyata pickup in Thailand with a 3 ltr 4 cyl diesel and auto transmission. This has a tubular manifold (really nice job - the Japs have a habit of hiding engineering gems in unlikely places!) which it shares on that side of the engine bay with the battery. Consequently we were suffering badly with short battery life and very poor battery performance when hot. I was considering moving the battery but tried some exhaust wrap first and it really sorted the problem. So a thumbs up from me!

apparently you are not supoposed to use them on cast iron - damages them but ok on mild or stainless steel i.e. what tubular mannies are made of.

oh, and also they can trap moisture so help to rot away mild steel manifold.....
