F+R Indicator and rear light on. MOT in about an hour!

I'm currently out at my car with the intention of putting her through an MOT today, having looked through the electrics there are a few issues, mainly the passanger side indicator is on full like the sidelights, also, the rear light at the back is on too. I've removed all fuses and the light still stay on. The only time to turn them off is by disconnecting the battery.

Anyone any ideas as to what is causeing this? Is it just a standard case if bad earths or poor contacts?

A bad earth somewhere that is forcing an earth through the lights would be the first place to look but I can't think of an unfused circuit that would cause that. The only other thing might be a short circuit, before a fuse, through the lights to earth or a cross connection on the lights somewhere. If pulling all the fuses out does not kill the power then it must be drawing power before it gets to the fuse.

Hope you get it sorted before the MOT :?

Same thing happened to me about an hour before my MOT! The issue was the two contacts in one of the rear brake/tail bulb holders touching each other and activating each other's circuits. Get the lenses off, remove the bulbs and check that none of the crappy little connectors have come out of their plastic 'securing' rings. If one touches the casting of the light cluster, it will blow one or more fuses, so either take the battery off or have some spare fuses on stand-by.

Another problem I had (on the M6 no less!!) was with the other sets of *crappy* :D connectors inside boot walls. The metal shims that hold the wire knobbles in place had slipped out and caused two or three circuits to cross over. Thankfully, I noticed only a minute after this happened as I could see the reflection of the high level brake light in the rear windscreen. Otherwise, would have driven to Penrith with brake and reverse lights stuck on!!

Hope you sort it!

If finally found out what had happened, alas, MOT put forward 'til tomorrow as a result.

I had previously done some welding to the passanger side rear sill and it would seem the heat from the welder and the new metal welded in had stripped the insulation from the wires running through that part of the loom.

It wasn't until I put the stereo on and noticed smoke coming from underneath my sill I realised what the problem was.

I've now trimmed back the melted wires, replaced them with new and taped them up again. Everthing now works as it should.

Thankfully it happened in my driveway, rather then on the way to the test station otherwise I imagine a lot more of the loom would be toasted.

Thanks for the input people.
