Free beer....

Well a pint or two anyhow (to be drunk at Beaulieu on the 9th or 10th of september with me) to the person who can tell me where my V8 engine in my '72 auto came from...The number is 34129239P it has a CR of 8.13:1 and does not correspond to any lists that I can find on the internet. All 34****numbers are listed as 8.25:1
There is also a very small Leyland symbol before and after the engine number.
Quick qnswer please, I'm thirsty!
Cheers,
Philippe

You may have got more than you bargained for, I've just had a look via google, the only one listed with that c.r. is from the range rover classic, and it's a 3.9, no mention of engine numbers though, so who knows.
Although the same c.r. was also in the land rover series III V8 which was 3.5 litre, I should think this is more likely.

Yes a comprehensive site indeed! But did you notice none of the numbers were listed with a "P" suffix?

When I noted the number I did not know that a "F" suffix existed as well. The Leyland symbol touches the letter so it is difficult to read....I read it as a "P"....However my number 34*****"F" is stamped 8.13:1 and the list states 8.25:1...So the mystery continues!
OK then, i'll throw in the Pork Scratchings as well!

Any more ideas out there?

The photo shows a CR of 8.13:1 and all the listings I have found say it should be a 8.25:1
You can just make out the Leyland logo behind the number. Do your cars have this as well?
Does anyone know when or if the 10.5:1 engines were replaced with a lower compression one?
I doubt my engine was reconditioned owing to the missing manifold nuts and one stud and was probably a French sourced used engine.
Looks like the beer is all for me then:)

The French 'Carte Grise' does not include the engine number. However I have sent off for a British Heritage build certificate and asked them to do an engine search as well. I'll post their findings.

ahh that explains it then why nothing came back for a car with that engine fitted,if its a french car then it wouldnt be on the dvla computer then.but hopefully someone at british heritage may be able to help

I've been out of the UK for the best part of 14 years and am not too sure how things work anymore in England...Do you have access to DVLA computer records?
