Front Windscreen Rubbers

I am going to replace the front windscreen with the one from my spare car. Where is the best place to get new rubber for the screen?
Any special precautions for this job? Looks pretty straightforward to me.

Best place by far is Scott's Old Auto Rubber - theirs are moulded for the corners - everybody else's aren't! http://www.scottsoldautorubber.com.au/

The difficult bit about changing the rubber is getting the front decker panel off to get at the screen fixing bolts. You may well choose to have the bonnet off to facilitate this and realigning the bonnet afterwards is a known tricky job! Best mark where everything is before you release any bolts!

the only difficulty I found removing the front decker was the wiper spindle nuts :( after struggling, rounding, breaking the first one,I got hold of 4 new ones, and then cut them all off :p ..they are only alloy,I replaced them with chromed steel items from an autojumble.the threads do vary on the nuts you can get,so try to save one to match them to...I put plenty of grease on the threads to stop any further corrosion

If you do remove the bonnet, which is recommended, also remove the front grill. That way, even if you do not line it up properly, you are not faced with a bonnet jammed shut as you can access the bonnet locking mechanism, etc from below.
P.S. I am still awaiting PilkyO's report on his visit to NZ!
Unfortunately he did not get to visit me. My P6b awaited his inspection and I had a good supply of cold ale. The P6b is still there but the cold ale has now long gone.

Hi Classicus.

Not a lot to report really,I spent 2wks with my mum, in Waipu, then 2wks touring the north island on the magic bus, from Cape Reanga to Wellington and, annoyingly, whilst in Napier, 2 days with a very bad stomach!
I did get to see one rover p6v8 in a garage in Napier ,was it one of yours?? with 2 big triumph saloons, close to the supermarket, where there was also a triumph herald converted into a ute!
I stayed overnight in the old prison,in a cell :p
then the last week relaxing at mums before coming home.
I have decided to stay in the UK for now,but will consider retiring to NZ when I win the big one on the lottery :;):
When I can afford another trip,I am going to do 4wks on the south island!
cheers for now

Right! Now that the forum is back I can start asking all sorts of daft questions again!

I too am about to replace my front screen. The Rubber seal that goes around the sides and top looks to be ok, but what I need is the foamy draft excluder thype material which goes inside the screen at the bottom. Where can I get this? What is its proper name? Also I am guessing that a non setting screen sealant of the type used on the proper minis etc is the thing to use? Any tips welcome!

Mmm. Not sure I'm with you on that one.

The large moulded rubber that is visible from the outside of the car runs across the top of the screen and down each side - part no 364028. This seals directly onto the base unit. Across the bottom of the screen there is a plain rubber which lies between the screen and the base unit but does not wrap around the lower edge of the screen - part no 372373 / 367293. Finally the bottom of the screen is supported in a nasty and often rusty steel channel that is on adjusting studs to force the screen up into the base unit. This channel has a rubber(? or plastic?) liner - part no 364396.

From memory I think you could actually be looking at the moulded finisher which has the screen demister slots in it and lies below and behind the dash top. I'm pretty sure this has a simple foam edge to draught seal it against the screen. This is nothing to do with the screen sealing.

I'm pretty sure you shouldn't need to use any sealer unless one or more of the rubbers are past their sell by date. With all the bits of trim that have to come off i would have thought it was a good idea to use new ones. Try Ian at Rover Classics or order direct from Scotts (see above).

Best of luck

Chris
