Fuel petition

I know it probably will NOT make a difference as the government ask us what we want, then do what they want, but it can't harm to try.

http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/DutyReduction/

When the vat was dropped to help get us out of the recession the bankers and the government threw us into, they increased the duty on petrol to stop the general masses getting cheaper petrol. Companies who were vat regsitered actually lost money here, as they couldn't claim so much back on their vat returns! (helping small businesses by putting their costs up?)

Now vat has gone up again, the duty was NOT reduced, just increased again and again.

Doesn't the same apply to gas and electric supplies - the cost of the fuel to the suppliers has dropped but the cost to the consumer hasn't

Whatever happens - we get screwed by the Government

These online petitions do nothing. They're just a sop from the powers that be to make us think we can have an influence. Though I seem to recall one was so huge they took notice but I can't remember what it was now.

It was the campaign against road pricing - over 2 million signed it, but it didn't stop, only delayed it.

We could all vote Monster Raving Loony Party!! That'd be a landlslide I'd like to see. There'd be a lot of surprised former MP's wandering around Westminster not entirely sure how this "real life" thing is meant to work.
In all seriousness though, there are other ways to make our voices heard, but they are many and widely varied, those of a Facebook persuasion can join many groups related to this, I'm in one that has 200,000 odd members, and if it works out could lead to something being done. It's just the modern way of protesting and we must move with the times, if we protest on the streets we're terrorists unless we have a permit, which will never be granted as it could embarrass our illustrious leader and get TV coverage but they can't stop Facebook groups and I would imagine there are people employed by number 10 to monitor these things so as to capture the publics mood especially pre election. There are motoring pressure groups including an all party parliamentary classic car commitee, the FBHVC has links with other groups too. Carefully worded Freedom of information requests can be of great help especially if a news paper thinks it might get some reader numbers out of the information released. It is also up to classic vehicle clubs and press to represent our rights and opinions and to get their heads together to present a united front against very poorly veiled attempts to raise some shekels to pump into the governments collective pockets usually in the name of some eco twaddle (it is a real issue, just not when it's coming from a politician's mouth). We must all be aware of our rights as citizens and classic motorist's, and do our best to make sure we are not ridden over roughshod by some fast talking politician out to further his career at anyones cost.
Now, I really must replace my soapbox as this one is getting very worn out from repeated use, stick together everyone and look for the new means of getting heard.
