Fuel Pump - Electic v mechanical

As mentioned in another entry I had a problem with the fuel pump on my 3500s taody which was sorted at the roadside by the worlds most helpful RAC man.

I mentioned getting a electric pump fitted and he seemed to think this would be a good modification.

For a man with two left hands when it comes to spanners is this an easy job ? Does the old mechanical pump have to be left in place if so is there some sort of blanking plate to put in its place ? If anyone has an electic pump is there any make that is better than others, or as now I had my pump repaired should I leave well alone?
Any help advice greatly received.

Dave,
if it was me, and my car, I'd leave well alone. I understand that a lot of owners fit an electric pump to help combat vapour lock (when fuel lines become over-heated and the normally liquid petrol becomes a gas) but if it all works o.k. then why bother?
Regards, John.
