Fuel Tank inner flexible pipe

I,ve got the fuel tank out of the '68 TC, (getting a frame up rebuild) The tank had 12 year old gas (petrol) so it desparately needs a cleaning. How on earth would someone replace the flexible hose inside? Or is it even necessary?
I'm shooting for driving this beast once again, hopefully next summer

Hello Dick,
As far as I know, there is nothing in the tank other than the sender unit which is usually straightforward to remove.
Please explain "the flexible pipe in the tank"
Regards, John.
p.s. Just looked at my parts book and cannot see anything relevent.

Hi John,

Item # 37 in the 2000-2200 Rpair Operation Manual. "Filler pipe, inner, flexible"
The filler pipe on this tank has a smaller diameter inner pipe which, I always asumed, might go dirctly to the reserve.
When you remove the filler cap assy the flexible pipe comes with it or separates and stays in the tank.
In this case, I pulled it from the tank where it had been floating loose.

Item 37 inrepair manual does read, fillerpipe etc, but inparts book item 37 is breather and drain pipe for petrol tank. Thats the small diameter pipe that fits on top of tank, nothing to do with fillerpipe. Hope that helps Regards Joe.

Hi
I am assuming you mean the pipe that looks like a vacuum cleaner pipe? This is supposed to be attached to the filler neck and the idea is that the fuel goes down the pipe and air escapes back up the outside. It isn't fastened to the tank.

Thanks Tony, That makes sense to me. This tank always was a pain to fill since the neck has the opposite curve from the nozzle of the gas pumps here. One basically has to freely pour the gas into the filler or the pump will shut off or splash.
We'll clean out the tank and reglue the length of hose.
The guage unit is rusted solid, so I don't know if that is salvageable yet, but we have a long cold winter ahead to find out everything.

Hello Dick,
Sounds like this is sorted.
In addition, the reserve and main fuel lines feed from the same tank it's just that the main pipe sticks up further in to the tank than the reserve so that when you run out of fuel on the "main tank" and pull the reserve lever the changeover valve mounted on the lower nearside of the bulkhead moves and the fuel is supplied from the lower (reserve) tube.
Hope this is clearer than it sounds when I read it back!
Regards, John.
