Goodrich Brake hoses.

I bought a set from ebay for a little over £30 a while ago & fitting them it's become apparent (Harvey noticed it first) that the rear inter-caliper one is wrong. It fits but does away with the small metal pipe on the nearside caliper & screws straight in to it. I could live with that but it's too short when the calipers are mounted & has no play in it whatsoever. Has anyone else had this or does the kit normally come with the correct type of hose? If it's the normal supplied item then I would have thought people would have complained about it. As the kit seems made for an inboard system due to having only the front pipes matching with the 2 different types for the rear I wouldn't have thought there would be too many applications for it but I'm having trouble with it as Pirtek can't help me & the hoses only seem available in kits. I've just called Earls performance at Silverstone (Pirtek recommended them..01803 869850) & they can make me one up for around £20 with the VAT+postage but I'd like to know if this is the normal Goodrich supplied item though I can't see it. Mind you, even having this one made up it'll still work out a little cheaper than getting a kit direct from the suppliers which is a shade under £70.

I've fitted those to my car and they bolted straight on in place of the rubber hoses. They were an exact replacement and the short solid pipe is still in place.

It could be possible that your kit has the wrong hose in the box perhaps?

Try contacting Goodrich to see if they have a silhouette drawing of the parts supplied.

Thanks for the reply Paul, but I won't bother as even if they'll do one singly they'll probably charge me more for it than Earls will to make one up. I bought the kit from ebay so there's no comeback from Goodrich. I really just wanted to know if I had the right kit which obviously I haven't as the one hose is different unlike yours. I'll see if I can find out which car it is for from the kit number though the hose could have been packed wrongly as you say.

I too have purchased a set of the Goodridge brake hoses, and after reading "The Rovering Member's" post, I thought that I had better check. In my case the hose in question is indeed the correct length. The part number on the box is...TRV0200-4P,...ROVER P6 3500 V8 SALOON. I purchased my set from RPI.

The problem isn't so much that the hose isn't the right length, rather that one of the ends is not fitted with the correct type of fitting, which means that it has to be threaded directly into the calipers at both ends, as it won't fit to the small metal pipe on the NSR caliper, and it's the loss of the length of the metal pipe that makes the hose too short.

If I recall correctly (it's nearly a year since I did mine) the short pipe has a flare nut and a flanged end just the same as the short pipe on the front calipers. I think all the hoses in my kit had the same ends on them, two of the same length for the front and two shorter ones each a slightly different length for the rears.

The only problem I had was deciding which of the rear hoses went between the calipers and which went from body to caliper as they were slightly different lengths.

I'm sure if someone at Goodrich had put the wrong hoses in the box they would exchange them regardless of where you bought them unless they were used.

Hello Harvey,

Now you had me worried as initially I was thinking it was just the length which may be in error, so I went and double checked. I am pleased to say that there is no problem with the ends not being able to fit where they are supposed to. The hose linking the two calipers has the correct tapered end fitting which will allow fitment into the short metal pipe without problems.

As Paul (testrider) indicated above, all four hoses have the same taper on each end, with different length threaded portions as applicable for their desired location. All hoses are also of the correct length, as per the originals, so there is no problem there either.

Possibly but Goodrich only deal with traders now, not directly with the public & going back to the ebay vendor may prove more hassle than it's worth. I want the car back on the road so I'll just get Earls to make me one up. As I said, it'll still work out cheaper than if I'd bought the kit direct from the suppliers.

Just checked the number on the kit & it's TRV0100-4P & it says it's for the Rover 2000TC 69-73 & the kit is dated 21/7/2008. So it looks as if it may have had the offending hose packed wrongly, the wrong one I have is labeled: Goodrich Type 1 FMV88.108. I've got Earls making me one up but I'll e-mail Goodrich & see what they have to say. May be able to get a hose out of them.

I can't think of a difference between the SC and TC offhand that would make them have to list them seperately, and the only difference on hoses would be for Dunlop brakes, and they were long replaced by Girling in 1969, so that labelling is incorrect on at least 2 counts so far, (model and date) so not surprising that the hoses are wrong as well really.

No I didn't think there were any differences between the SC & TC. Here are the two hoses, I received the Earls item today. Looks O.K. You can easily see the difference. I've not e-mailed Goodrich yet.

Isn't it annoying how Firefox cuts off the right-hand side of pictures?

I bought a set off Ebay for about £30 and one of the back ones was indeed wrong, but I did send it back (with the rubber origional as a pattern) and got it swapped OK. Seller said at the time that there were several different kits for P6s. Kit was marked up as "P6B saloon" I think. I wonder if it was a dodgy batch or something because I havnt seen any as cheap since.
