grey rear seat belts ?

Is it true that Rover never fitted GREY rear seat belts (static or automatic) on P6s, but black belts? (except grey NADA 3500 S static belts)

As far as I am aware rover fitted static grey Irvin buckle type belts, "some VERY rare ones had an enamel Irvin chute badge on them", to most of the early cars, and then fitted static grey Irvin pushbutton buckle type up to about 1970ish.
I seem to remember, that when the black inertia type came into use,or in the mid 70's,there was an option from the dealer to buy or have fitted black push button buckle ones to the rear seats to match.
Thats one reason why early seats wont fit well in later cars,as their shape is wrong for inertia belts!

I have original grey irvin front push button statics in mine,"1971V8",and I have fitted a set of the same to the rear!
I dont remember seeing any rear grey ones fitted at shows over the years, that were fitted from new, they all have been put in by the owners for modern day safety for the rear passengers.
The law states that if rear seatbelts are retro fitted, whatever the year of the car, they must legally be worn!!
Statutory fitment of rears in the UK was in the mid 80's,so too late for rover to have to comply!
Dont know about belt regulations for USA/Canada?
I am sure that one of our esteemed forum colleagues who know "ALMOST??" all there is to know about P6 history will chip in,if they know the answer!!!

My Canadian '70 2000 TC has grey static rear belts. These were the same belts as came installed in my Dads 1969 TC.
pics of a 1970 TC for sale on the rover club of canada has same grey rear belts so I know they were installed on other than NADA 3500 S vehicles.
Hope this helps.

So these grey rear belts were factory-fitted ?

To all: ever seen a P6 Series one V8 or early Series Two V8 with (factory-fitted) grey rear belts?

How could you tell if they were factory-fitted, they're not difficult to fit so could have been done within a year or two by a conscientious owner? You'd have to have the original bill of sale I would have thought. Our '69 TC has early buckle Irvin's in the front which I assume are original. Likewise our '70 P5B. I've just fitted Irvin 'press button's in the back of the '69 which came out the front of our '74 SC donor.

Rudiger, although the previous owner of my car supplied lots of documentation including original UK tax registration, cancelled cheques used to buy the car and customs paperwork for importation to Canada, I have not found an itemized bill of sale.

Wikipedia says "The Rover 2000 won industry awards for safety when it was introduced. The car featured all-round seat belts"

After looking at the 1969 optional equipment brochure that came with my car, it appears there weren't many factory installed options for the 4 or 8 cylinder cars at this time.
Seat belts were listed as a distributor or dealer installed option with the following notation... "Note- In the U.K. safety harness is supplied and fitted by distributor or dealer when car is registered."

Maybe someone on this forum has an options brochure with different factory/dealer options.
