Can anyone sort this for me.I,ve just got my 2000tc back on the road and i have heavy or stiff steering when turning the steering box is an unknown quantity. Also the steering is vague when driving.
All the suspension parts are new, springs and ball joints, shockers.
In the manual it shows an exploded drawing of two steering boxes but only tells you how to adjust one of them mine being the other? also the front wheels seem to splay out at the bottom is this normal.I looked at taking it to my local ats but the track rods are not adjustable which begs the question how do you adjust them
.
ps, i am desperate to sort this so any help greatly appreciated.
cheers steve

There is an adustable rod coming out the bottom of the sterring box in my 72 2000sc. The adjustment nuts are under the waterbottle on one side, and to the right of the heater (from front) look down below the heater you should see the rod and adjuster there.

Try to take a spanner with you that fits these nuts to ATS - my local tyre depot only have mole grips,,,, I took a spanner next time,,,, sorry cant remeber size!

cheers derek just seen the arm tucked away[mayby i should read the manual properly next time] on my way to ats with said spanner. they have said they have no problem doing these cars .

Juat been reading this thread and couldn't help notice ats
being mentioned.I work for ats in Blackpool. The alignment equipment we use is state of the art laser equipment. The only
draw back with the gauges is they hang over the tyres,so with
the rear tyre being hidden by the arch it makes it hard to get the gauge on.It is possible, you have to lift the car up and thread it round the tyre.Only prob is if you have wider tyres on your p6.THERES NO ROOM for the stuff and without getting the gauges on all four wheels,it can't be done.
If anyone out there wants your local ats to do this let me know and i'll get in touch with the local centre and make them give you club discount.

When you say there are two steering boxs show, I think that one of them is the steering idler damper. It is the littler one on the passenger side of the car. I have an early 2000 with the old style shock absorber style steering damper, so I can see the confusion this may cause.
The castor on the car should be 1/2 degree positive +/- 1/2 degree and the camber zero +/- one degree. Toe in should be 1/16.
Also check the tyre pressure, I have found in the past that low or uneven tyre pressure has caused all sorts of grief in the past.
Hope that this helps and that I'm not telling you stuff that you have found out for yourself!
Merry Christmas all
GUY. :D

went to ats tracking spot on.This must mean that either the steering box and/or idler or ball joints are shot.If the steering feels vague going striaght on but stiff when turning does this mean that there is no adjustment possible. HELP?
