Interior Mirror

Hi all,
My existing interior mirror has some degradation on the silvering and is also the small convex type, which can be a tad deceiving in distance-judging! It's fixed through the headlining with 3 screws and incorporates a white plastic bit to hold the sunvisor arms, Like this..

I've acquired a Wingard mirror (but no mounting base) that I'm told came from a P6. Like this..

Does anyone else have this type of mirror? And if so, how do you locate the visor arms?

Cheers,

Stan

Been there, done that...

What you bought is the mirror from a series 2 car.
I am afraid that you cannot fit it.

Hi Stan,
I have this type of mirror in a s2 that i'm in the process of restoring'
It comes in two parts and was designed to separate under impact, (another p6 safety feature :?: )
You will need the base plate that has two rubber clips that hold the visors in place'

I might have a spare base plate in amongst my shed full of p6 bits, but it may take a little time to find it as our house has been turned upside down by the council to fit the new kitchen and central heating

I am sure the sun visors need to be changed as well if you go down this route.

You should be able to pick up the bits you need secondhand but for interest try a landrover dealer.

Our works defender (T-registration) has the same type on mirror but dips. the base also fits SD1's but the have a shorter stem. I used a SD1 mirror and my own stalk the glass is much better and you can dip it, it did take a good bit of elbow grease to get the ball into the socket.

I cut off the stem of the old mirror and fixed a dipping mirror from a G reg Ford Fiesta to the screen using a self adhesive pad. Nil points for authenticity but max points for effectiveness !

Thanks hermione, sounds good. Mine's a Series 2 as well but the visors are smoked black plastic with chrome tops which (I think) come from a P4, and I'd like to keep them. If you do come across the base, let me know a cost and I'll PM you my address.

Thanks for all the other replies guys!

Cheers,

Stan
