I know its an old topic but just a word of caution for those new to the different wheels game.

Diameter of wheel fitted is unimportant - what matters is the overall diameter of tyre.

Thus a large diameter wheel needs a low aspect ratio tyre - standard is 185 / 80 X 14 so you might need something like 225 / 50 X 17.

A super calculator to take the hard work out of this guessing game is available on the Dutch SD1 site (http://www.roversd1.nl/sd1web/) under "bodyshell".

As far as width of tyre usable without resorting to the whellarch flaring hammer is concerned there seems to be no definitive knowledge out there. I strongly suspect that many people who have had problems have used an over diameter wheel tyre combination, which definitely fouls in the D post area. I have yet to see clear information from people definitely running the correct overall diameter.

With the Jeep wheels there is potential for the offset to be slightly different as well, either pushing the tyre deeper into the wheelarch or bringing it further out towards the wings.

With either 15" Rostyle (P5), Minilites or Jensen wheels there seems to be consensus that you can go up to 205. I've seen photo's with 225's as well.

Another factor will be what ride height you are running. New springs and a set of properly set up spring spacers gives a lot more room for error than the ride heights most of us run!

Finally don't forget to use a nice new set of Jeep wheel nuts so that they seat properly in the wheel stud apertures.

Good luck - just as well they're not too pricey!
