Kienzle Clock

Hi All,

I want to take one of my spare S2 clocks (round dials dash) apart so that I can get at the cogs and fathom out why it keeps stopping. I've cured most of my clocks but this one's baffling me at the moment and I need better access. I can't get the fingers off, I've tried prising, pulling with pliers etc but they wont move. Any ideas please?

I've also got a 2000SC clock that I want to repair. How do I get inside this one? Is it a case of prising up the chrome surround and pulling the innards out through the front?

Thanks,
Brian.

No, it always stops every revolution of the escapement gear, usually in the exact same place. I want to gain access to the gears to see what's happening. With the back off, there is easy access to the electrical winding mechanism, but the gears are too low down.

If I can get the fingers off, then the face, I believe that I can remove the gear mechanism from the metal "dish" that is stopping me from getting a good view.

Hopefully it'll just need a good clean.

My final resort if no-one here knows, will be to give it a good blast with carb cleaner (I love that stuff, so many uses) and then "paint" some fine lubricating oil into the pivot points. You should never spray these clocks with WD40 (or similar) otherwise you get oil all over the spring which will make them run too fast and unreliable. It effectively 'sticks' concentric parts of the spring together, making for a shorter spring which makes it run fast.

As this is one of my spare clocks, I'd like to take it apart and see what the real problem is - find out whats making it tick :D

My tuppence worth - I took apart a S1 clock to solder the winding mech connector. I had to prise the chrome bezel off by bending out the rear tabs, and then wiggle that off. Didn't have to attend to the mechanics of it though. Getting the bezel back on tightly was the tricky part, and the marks I made on it I ended up making sure faced downwards...

I had that problem - fast and slow, it couldn't make it's mind up

The problem was that it had previously been sprayed with WD40 causing the problem outlined above. The cure is a dose of carb cleaner. Careful how you use it though, if you get it on the plastic face, it is really cold and can cause it to crack! Go easy and you'll be fine.

I've got 2 spares that run perfectly, and keep excellent time. Just gotta fix this one!

I have a LHD car and want to replace the clock. The clock is the same as RHD but the white mounting plate which it is screwed to the panel with is opposite hand. I have also tried removing the hands to get to this and can find no way to get them off. Of amyone knows, please tell!
