Hi Just been told by experiencer rover mechanic that both rear calipers are weeping slightly. any idea of good source for recon replacements at good price. Mech thinks £200 labour to fit them both. sounds high. What do you think

also told by o/s steering idler/relay unit is worn,. again what do you think about source for recon replacement. If these bits are very pricey not sure how I can afford to get this all done and MOT in June!!. So good value mech who knows the V8 would be good. PS I'm near watford

Thanks

Julian

Thanks all

That's 12 hours worth of labour in my money. For rear calipers and idler I'd say that's probably reasonable. I've swapped calipers over in a long afternoon. But that was having done it a couple of times previously and having a pit to work in. Not game enough to go near the idler myself though, left that to the guys with the proper tools for the job.

If you have the time and get the existing calipers re-con'd, it's well worth making sure that this includes stripping and checking the adjustment mechanism as well while you're at at, and not just resleeving and fitting new seals etc. I sent mine out to be sleeved, but did the rest myself. Came up a treat.

You can get recon'd idlers from Scott's in Aussie if you can't find in the UK. Can make a huge difference.

Hello Julian

I'm a Watfordite as you know - and we haven't met yet have we :) I trust a local Mechanic based at Croxley Green, West Watford, who used to work on the cars (when they were young) at Henleys. He also owned a stream of 3500s himself back then too. If you want we can meet and pop over for second opinion/assessment/quote?
