lights and ignition switch

I borrowed my dads wedgewood blue 1965 s1 to take to the Goodwood revival meeting and have actually been running around in it ever since. i have noticed a couple of odd electrical issues. Firstly the flash function doesn't work, I am assuming it is a contact issue in the stalk which should be relatively easy to fix. The other is that the lights only work when the ignition is switched on, park, side, mains dips, all go off when you turn off the ignition. Is this correct?? If not what is the likely source of the problem. The car is largely original and the wiring looks unmolested, looking at the wiring diagram it seems as if the feed for the lights comes from the ignition side of the circuit, the other fuse feeds the interior lights, horns and non working flashers....surely the parking lights should work without the ignition on???

Any ideas/suggestions

It sounds as though somebody crossed the wires in the fuse box!
If you have a wiring diagram replace them correctly according to the colours.

sorted the flashers, poor connection.

Fuse box is wired as per the wiring diagaram.

Was just wondering, should the parking lights work when the ignition key is turned to the anti clockwise position? If so I bet the ignition barrell has been re wired possibly to stop a previous owner from leaving the lights on.

Any other theories out there?

I think you're possibly right with your theory I know mine was wired up a bit like a Volvo when I got it so the sidelights came on with the ignition. You should be able to switch the sidelights or parking lights on with no ign. & also the parking light option should only illuminate the O/S sidelights or at least that's how mine works

thanks colin, park lights work correctly on the switch but need the ignition on, suppose i had better have a look under the switch panel to see what is going on. Dads car is warly so has one switch for park/side and a second one for fog/head. possibly with two switches to turn the lights off someone has a problem remembering!!

Hi mine has the 2 switches aswell but the head/fog only gets power when the sidelights are on so you just need to put a constant live to the input side of your side/park switch instead of an ignition feed, hope you get sorted
