bit of a P6 newbie me - I have the manual choke and not familiar with how it behaves yet, 2nd day of ownership: when I pull it out - how does it stay there till I'm ready to return it? - it seems to do this but not sure how - and should the choke (orange) light stay on? - seems to blink for wquite a while before dissapearing - maybe it's just me.............

hi when you pull out the choke if you turn it to the right it will lock in place put if u want to stick it in a bit to turn to the left put it where u want it then turned to the right to lock it again easy as that the orange light should only come on when it dont need any choke but once its running and worm the light should be off if not it prob the switch is playing up behind the speaker mine use to do it untill i disconnect it

Choke operation MKII

Hi your choke when pulled should pop back in by itself, it needs a twist to hold in place, the choke light only lights when the engine gets warm to inform you to push the choke knob back in, the light like the hold out function goes out with a twist. Often on these choke knobs the rear mounting nut comes loose in the facia and may need retightening.

Gentlemen,

I still the AED fitted to my 1969 3500 P6 and it is still working ok but should it decide to go wrong how easy is it to convert to manual choke and can kits still be bought to modify it.

Personally if you remove the AED I'd take the opportunity to remove the HS6 carbs and manifold at the same time and replace with the later HIF6 carbs and manifold, all of which have manual chokes.

I didn't realise you could leave the choke wherever you wanted until recently...!!! I thought it was an all or nothing affair...! Now I know you can pull it out as much or as little as you like I only pull it out a couple of centimeters to get the motor warmed through. I felt such a plonker when I found that out...!!!
