Here we go! The newly acquired P6. Am having a few problems with the Holley on her, but, it's fun to play with.
Bit of rust down the bottom of a few doors, piece of cake to do. No rust anywhere else really. I went over her with a fine tooth comb today and am very happy. Has had a full bare metal respray once upon a time and looks great! It's actually quite dirty in the pictures and is a very very sharp white. Most of the leather/vinyl is in great condition, I will endeavor to get a new drivers seat or have it re-done.
ODO says 89,000 Miles, but it has done a documented 109.

I love her!

Looks very nice! Current WoF?

Whereabouts in NZ are you?
No WOF at the present time, I have to do the rust in the doors and buy some new sealed beam units and a few lights etc. All the little stuff.

I'm currently just north of Eketahuna, 45km north of Masterton. 8)

Looks like a nice solid Kiwi built car. I wonder why it's got 1978 licence plates on it? And why on earth does it have a Triumph sticker in the back window? Sacrilege!
Also looks like an Ambla interior, fairly typical of a NZ car but the lack of power steering isn't. Normally PAS was the only option they came with.

I noticed the Triumph sticker and had a wee scratch of my head. Confused me for a bit....
I'm not sure what's the deal with the plates. I have the full ownership history sitting beside my bed and a ton of reciepts. I wouldn't mind power steering, but, it's lighter than the Hilux and my E12 5 seies was [and that was only a 4cyl!]

Hello DD,

That's a nice looking Rover that you have there... :D Is she the first P6B that you have owned?

Oh just one thing I have noticed,...the 3500 and Rover badges on your boot have actually been swapped around.

Ron.

First rover for me mate. The badges have been swapped? How eccentric!
I've always wanted a P6B and it had to be a 3.5 in white with red leather, this was too good to pass up. I enjoy having a project to fiddle with. I have had a couple of old toys, 52 Morris Minor coupe [First of the high lights with the side valve 803 beast in her and Lucas [[prince of darkness]] indicators]. I also had a 73 BMW E12 520i, to add to the BMW collection of two other 5 series and a 3 series. The BMW was a manual with a rare factory limited slip rear, nothing on the P6 in terms of comfort, ride quality and torque.

I have a reasonable list of toys for my lack of age =D 15 cars and 4 bikes by the age of 21 isn't going to bad, this one's here to stay though. I love her to death.

Nice car, but agree that a 1978 1st rego., for a car that isn't an import, must have a story behind it....

Yes, I agree there.
I ran an inspection and history report, car was registered in Wanganui NZ, Feb 7th.

Gotta be a good story behind it, maybe it kicked around the factory for 5 years !!!!!!!sounds a bit unlikely, was it built in the Nelson plant or the UK? and came in as a complete car? too many unanswered questions on this car, do you have the chassis number, that may determine it place of manufacture.

Graeme

Carjam shows the chassis to be 453 which means NZ built. It could have sat in a dealers showroom for a bit, but 5 years? It may have been sent to Ozzie when new and re-imported in '78. (I've seen that before. Does it have a silver metal tag next to the chassis number?) Registration could have lapsed (or been written off  ) when fairly young and recomissioned. Or it could have just had new plates issued. Certainly curious!

It does have a very poorly etched silver tag.....I must read it!

MIne's an all-Kiwi P6B with no PAS. There's obviously a few of them floating around. But mine's not going to stay that way forever...

According to Carjam, IL2406 was first registered on 7/2/78 as a new vehicle without prior overseas registration. There is no record of a prior number plate shown. The chassis number is 45301587B, indicating a Series 2 V8 RHD CKD car. Surely it didn't sit around for 5 years before it was sold (in any case it is registered as a '73)?

There's a little mystery for somebody to solve.

Whatever the case, thoroughly enjoy that car!

It is quite the mystery! Gives it character though :p I love her too bits!

A few new pictures, finished the rust removal and painting of the doors today while off work with the flu. Then took pictures before I cleaned it, idiot!
