My Old Car Back, Or One Like It!?

Regretted selling my P6 a few years back and want it back, or one like it. It was a 2000TC 1970 on a J plate. It had non-opening rear 1/4 windows and no side trims, `baccy leaf brown. I`m not interested in any other colour or model. It doesn`t show up on the dvla site, only as being under Sorn, but the bloke that bought it said he had a private museum in Wales so I guess he doesn`t use it on the road. It originally had a beige leather interior but I changed it to flat pleat cloth which I prefer. I`ll wait 6 months or so for the right one before I start getting desperate! 8)

Good luck with the search! Those windows are only a short time in production arent they so that's probably the toughest requirement to meet?

So yours had the S2 grille/instruments...etc, but was just without the side trims? I've never seen that before. My first Rover was a J plate series one & a half as they're known & it had the side trims. I can't see that Rover would have fitted all the other S2 accoutrements bar the side strips unless it was bang at the start of the changeover & they were using one of the last sets of S1 panels. But then, why not just drill the holes as that's the only difference AFAIK. I think you may end up being desperate in your search unless you're willing to make that particular modification yourself. That said, you can make any of the mods you want yourself.

Drew,

Is it not a little extreme to reject loads of lovely cars just because of some removable side strips? With the aid of an experienced bodyshop type professional and of course some £ they could be gone and you could be 'complete' and Rovering through the summer.

I liked the spec of my car soooooo much when I bought it, nearly every part of has been updated or changed, it was quite fun getting to where I wanted it from where it started - as I bought it, like you, with a vision

It sounds like a series 1 to me, and a rather late one at that. There is no mention of the round dials. There have been similar sounding cars for sale recently, such as this one: http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/cla ... -rover-p6/

I couldn't help but notice this is exactly how you describe your one, to make this one like yours, would only require the change over to boxpleat cloth seats.

Cheers, Adam.

No, but Drew said the one on ebay had the side strips which he doesn't want, he didn't mention that it also had an S2 grille so you would assume he wasn't bothered that it was fitted because his first one had one too. Besides, no UK S1 has side strips so it wouldn't have been a fact worth mentioning about his original car if it was also an S1. And that being the case, his original car being a one & a half, was also a TC so would have had the round instrumentation too.

If it had non opening rear 1/4 lights, it was an S1. All S2's from launch have the opening ones. Lucky is a J reg S1 V8 and has the fixed 1/4 lights. So the car Adam has shown is a perfect match apart from the seats. And flat pleat cloth are really really rare. I should know, I've got some in Lucky and they took a very great deal of finding and quite a lot of luck!

Hi all.
And welcome back Drew.
Have you sold your low mileage Hillman imp then?
Or are you adding to the fleet?
Pop over this weekend if you want,I am about!
Drews car was a 100% late series 1,one of the last and as described!!
I fitted a replacement g/box and new clutch just before it was sold.
I am sure we can find him a suitable car,he prefers the S1 style over the modernised S2!

Saying it was an S1 would have saved a bit of bother then, not to mention the grille on the ebay car. :?
Bother?
And there's me thinking we were all here for fun. (No need to reply, seeing as your time is so precious.)

Oh I do apologise, how's this then?

Saying it was an S1 would have saved a bit of fun then, not to mention the grille on the ebay car.

No need to write small, we're all adults here aren't we?

As Drew described his car it could only be a S1!
He said about the one on ebay he didnt want side trims, and "I`m not interested in any other colour or model.!"
He didnt have the car for long and may not know as much about how Rovers S1/S2 differ as you and me!
Lets try and be constructive rather than critical about how he described it!
No quicker way to put a guy off than have a go!

It could have been worse.... He could have been blanked completely, which is even more childish

That's true, but when he didn't mention the grille on the ebay car it threw me off track.

I wasn't, it just seemed odd as I remember Drew being a fairly regular poster on here at one time. And actually, it was quite fun trying to work it out, so I probably used the wrong word.

But snide comments written in a 'whisper'? Per-leeze!

This is identical to drews car when he bought it,but the seats had been recoloured very badly iirc and thats why he fitted cloth box pleat.

Dont know what his budget is or if he has built his garage yet,but this one would tick all the boxes for him!

I must hold my hands up high and admit - I misread - Drew had said flat pleat cloth, not box pleat.
