hi ,im karl, reside in thames on the coromandel peninsula,nz.purchased a 70 v8 p6 from levin,(7hr drive),not too far from its birthplace, wellington.my daily driver to wrk ,and while the telstar was off the road, faithfully took my wife and kids everywhere.requires paint job oneday soon, but mechanically sound (mostly),altho can anyone tell me how to find the clour code as label's long gone. when i was a kid ,now 40 too,my friends dad and mum owned a white v8 p6 and it took us to their bach on the peninsula.have owned a few zephyrs and a consul, never thought id end up with a p6 lol. pleased to have joined, thru referral, and have plenty of questions ,and great to see everyone so happy to offer advice, and hope i can provide some helpful comments sometime. will load up some pics when i take some, soon.

Hi Karl, welcome aboard. What colour is your car? There were only a handful of original colours so it shouldn't be too hard to identify it and then we can help with part numbers and some paint codes.

hi kiwirover, you guys on here have some nice cars.slowly dressing mine up a bit,but im keeping things orig, and or period.my colour is a red. it seems to be hard to match a clour from pics on line.i dont think its venetian red as ive got a ventian red aerosol from repco and it is more maroon/purpley than the orig.assuming the formula is the same as the rover colour. i dont think also, its monza red,or brigade red,nor copperleaf.it does seem to be a darker red,it would be great to know.i guess i can get it colour matched if need be.thanks for your time

If it's a 1970 series 1 (with the alloy grille) then it should be Brigade red. If it's a late 1970 series 2 (plastic grille) then it should be Monza red.
If it was built in New Zealand (the first 3 didits of your chassis number will tell you) it could be anything! :? They had a tendency to use Triumph or Jaguar colours as they were all built in the same factory.
Also, after 40 years it is likely to have been resprayed at some point so may not still be original so your best bet is probably to take a panel down to your local paint shop and have them match it.
Anyway, we'd all love to see some pictures. :)

im afraid you might be rite about the any clolour comment as its a series 1 ,but its not brigade red or monza.will have to match the colour i guess. yes it still is orig paint job, with touch ups on the scratches and minor dents, otherwise very str8t panels with minimal rust.i took back my consul to bare metal and resprayed it,so happy with doing the respray myself, altho im not (thank goodness) taking it back to metal,as its not too bad as it is.i assume that with ur username ur in nz,do you mind telling me where you are just roughly?do you belong to a car club? i might look at joining the auckland club soon.

I'm in West Auckland. Feel free to drop me a PM if you are ever up this way or if you need any bits. I have been a member of the Auckland club but not for the last couple of years. Not deliberately and they are a great bunch of guys but every club event or outing seems to be on a Sunday and I work Sundays so I've not bothered to renew my membership. Still worth a look though, there's also a Waikato club.

If your paint is original it may be worth trying to match it to a triumph colour, I know Graeme (GHCE) from Chch has a series 2 that appears to be pimento red.

hey thankyou, and altho i dont get up there much ,i will endevour to meet up and have a chat.thanks for your offer if i need parts,i shall too. i didnt know there was a waikato club,so shall seek out them, maybe theyre my area as such.i will check out the truimph colour for a match. There is a guy in paeroa that selling his red rover p6 and there is a 2000 ,i think, local guys who i may catch up with too, but club outings would be fun. being a single income family with three young boys limits my outings financially aswell as freee time,so cant commit myself too much unfortunately, clubs do need a lot of support tho.will keep in touch, thanks again karl

Hi David & welcome.

I love the colour of your car. If the "G" plate is correct, I reckon your car may be a 68/69 model and that could mean it is April Yellow? The shade looks very light in your pictures but according to Rudiger's site, April Yellow was only available 1968-69.

April yellow must be my favourite colour for S1 cars. I think that the purer lines and less cluttered bodywork of the S1 cars mean that lighter colours just seem to look better. Also, pastel colours just seem to be more classy and have more of a 1960s feel?

Lovely car!..looks even better with the spare on the boot!. Hope your enjoying ownership. I wish mine was so tidy :) Hope you get many miles from her. I use mine daily..much to the astonishment of my friends!.

Hi Dave,

We should meet up some time. You don't see many of these old girls on Merseyside! There used to be an Almond V8 in Orrell Park, but it got sold to a bloke in Bristol (anyone on here?- It had brown boxpleat and needed a shedload of welding doing, but was cosmetically really nice), so I thought I was the only P6er left round here! Whereabouts are you? I'm in Crosby. Are you going to Wood Vale in the summer??

Hi Micheal, Sorry for the delay but have been trying to fathom out my gearchange so did not look at this posting for a while. I live just down the east lancs road about 1/4 of a mile from carmill auctions. I just was jacking up my p6 front ok but as the rover car jack took the weight on the rear i heard a little crunching so trolley jack took the strain and outer sills came off both rear jacking points corroded. so now a fair bit of welding, new inner sills at least so will be getting a few quotes from local welders. I have only had the p6 for 10 months and want to use it daily. but much money spent getting it right. oh well whats a pension for anyway. :D
