New Members E-bay question...

Hello one & all,

Am looking for some advice:- I've seen this on e-bay & think it might be worth taking a punt as there doesn't seem much interest in it.

Problem is the rot in the door shut:

Is this likely to be from a perished rubber or something more sinister?

I know it's difficult to tell from a photo but unfortunately I can't get up to March before the end of the auction.

Buying without seeing is never the best policy, but the most you have to lose is the money you spend buying and transporting it home, most of which you could probably get back by selling on or dismantling for parts if it's really bad.

That rear arch is a common rotspot, but a complete replacement is about £65 from J R Wadham IIRC, then it just needs the old one cutting out and the new one welding in. I'm sure there will be other bits of welding to do.

I've seen worse........

The problem with that rot is that it is usually the tip of the iceberg, the rot goes through to the inner arch, so any water splashed up whilst driving will go in through that hole and down in to the inner sill, you would really need to take the sill cover off to check the condition of the inner sill. A quick check would be to lift the rear seat and look in the deep well next to the sill, rot in this area would suggest that there will be more rot down the sill. Although this isn't guaranteed.

It's all repairable, but you need to be able to weld to do it cheaply.

Thanks for the replies, am highest bidder so we'll see how it goes- not going above £500 without seeing it so hopefully can't go too far wrong even if I do "win" it.
