Newbie wants an everyday driver

Oh my Lord!! I've no problem with the appearance outside or in of the Cortina, but having worked on a few kit cars I loathe the suspension, both front and rear, and I'm pretty anti the Pinto engine too. Lovely gearbox though. Perhaps I'm too much of an engineer - the P6 is just so beautifully crafted mechanically!

Why not go up a size and have a Granada estate - they are much more competant technically. If you can run to it financially a late 2.3 is a lovely engine (the DOHC four) and so is the 2.9 24v Cosworth. Otherwise the previous model with a Cologne V6 makes a really nice motor.

I prefer the older Essex 3.0L in the Mk1 Granada Coupe. Britains answer to the Mustang (in my opinion) :D

The other grille was better, but this is a lovely looking car.

Taken an odd twist, off this afternoon to look at (what appears to be) a very solid Mk2 Cortina 1.6 x flow estate
I'll let you know

Small trailer? How many times would you need to carry this load and where to? I'm a little surprised that you've not found something to fit a roof box thingy to the roof with. I was going get a new roof rack for putting my mountain bike on the roof of mine, they had a universal one in halfords. The cost in the end put me off, had to buy the rack bars then the kit for the bike.

Search for 'paddy hopkirk roof racks' in google.

First hit on eBay..... 180325862285

I totally missed this post!!
So you can get the bars

So one last dumb question. Can you fit 3 point innertia set belts in the rear of a pre 73 2000?

PS. the Mk2 cortina left me cold! no solidity to it

Hi,

Yes, you can fit 3 point inertia belts. Here's my 1971 2000 TC:

You'll see I've also put a small "static" lap belt in the middle too! The inertia reel goes on the parcel shelf ..... hang on, might have a couple more pics.........

Here's the buckle/lapbelt anchors - right at the bottom in the middle

And here's the lower anchor on the D post

the seats come out really easy to fit them, but you're best running a tap through to make the threads good - my belts are a new set from Securon, but old Jag belts do apparently fit too.

cheers,
Brian.
